I am thrilled to say our son Joe Jack was born on Saturday 1st March at 16.58. Delivered by c-section after I went into labour early that morning and because Joe was in a breach position we had to stay and have the operation that afternoon.
Altogether I was in surgery about 35 mins and Joe tipped the scales at a slender 5lb 14oz.
In the first 24hrs I reckon Joe slept around 22 of them, is breast feeding ok..
We both came home today, Monday lunchtime so are finding our feet, I will be back and update on our early day once I stop staring at our gorgeous son.
Well today we went to hospital convinced little boo had tired of being breach and was now on the way to being engaged such was the amount of extreme movement last night.
But alas no, the scan proved otherwise, its currently looking at coming out legs first and so plans must be made...barring a last minute miracle next week we will be booked in for a c-section on....oops nearly said then, well we do want to keep it a little surprise if we can..
Its a disappointment, I really wanted to have a normal birth but I guess its just not to be..
I have to have a seemingly bewildering range of washes and hair washes in advance of the op to satisfy MRSA precautions, these were all fired off like a sergeant major by a very unsympathetic female doctor who might just have blown our biggest surprise of all, the sex of our child...
She made me feel worried about the baby, the way it was sitting, the fact it is a little under sized. A really unsettling experience which contrasts markedly with the lady who did our scan, a lovely woman, informative, helpful and went the extra mile by checking that all the blood was reaching the baby - it was -and telling us we probably just had a smaller baby, if some are bigger then yes some are smaller.
So its a other talking to for boo tonight, it will have more manic street preachers played to it in the hope we can get it to turn before next week.
In other news its been my last day at work today, some lovely gifts and thoughts and I thought I would be sad to leave but no...I cant wait to get home and get cleaning, nesting I think they call it. The final piece of the nursery arrived today, the black out blind and so hubby is on with that as I type..
So maternity leave starts here...my plan is to plough through Breaking Bad seeing as hubby raved about it... wonder if I will get chance.
Feed Me Mummy celebrated its first birthday yesterday..
The Feed Me Mummy vest is a simple design, to wear under your normal clothes, which not only covers your post-pregnancy belly but also covers your chest while feeding so not to feel exposed at all. Its intended to give you more confidence and we hope to be giving it a road test soon..
We agree with what they say though..Breastfeeding shouldn't mean you have to sacrifice your love for fashion, so wear the clothes that you want to, whilst feeding with minimum exposure, and save a fortune on expensive nursing tops. Sounds great!
This quick review is what attracted our interest initially ..
'Our favourite thing about this vest is the fact that there are no extra clips, as far as we are concerned that is a huge bonus when you already have the clips of a feeding bra to contend with! The vest is really comfy and is long enough to hide all those saggy bits you want to hide away after the birth! Breastfeeding can be tricky to begin with, especially if you are doing it for the first time and breastfeeding in public can take some time to get used to so you want to purchase products to make life easier and we think this vest is one of those products!'
(Review from Mummy Fever)
Its a few weeks, well maybe only three or four til we get to try these but the look like a great idea and will help banish those worries about breastfeeding in public.

Well been for a scan today as the last couple of midwife appointments have been inconclusive when measuring the baby's size. This was because, almost pre-empting the threatened cold snap it was all curled up on my right hand side.
Today then good and not so good news, its still in breach position though has moved around a little so it could be measured better and all is good there. But the hope is at this stage that booboo will be more engaged. I've to go for another scan in two weeks, if the baby still isn't in position then they will attempt to move it manually. Does that hurt I asked, its uncomfortable the nurse said. In my experience uncomfortable = excruciating.
Now of course they will be monitoring to see the baby doesn't get stressed, if it does then they will get me straight in for a C section. I really want a natural birth but of course baby health comes first...
Its all a bit scary and incredibly real to think in two and a bit weeks we could have our baby... It made for a curiously stressful and happy day but then got home and found the cistern was leaking and the bathroom flooded, the kitchen ceiling dripping...

New KiddieCubes, help weaning babies
KiddieCubes are coming to the rescue of parents everywhere: the 100% organic, natural, frozen little cubes of goodness wean babies onto solids in a totally healthy, tasty and wholesome way but without the pressure of peeling, chopping, steaming and blending. It’s weaning, but not as we know it…
Thanks to nutritional therapist and mum of two Issy Langly-Smith, mums who aspire to wean their children in the ‘text book’ fashion can now do so without the labour-intensive and often thankless task of turning their kitchens into mini food factories.
KiddieCubes do all the hard work for parents, preparing perfect purees just the way they’d make at home, without any ‘nasties’. Unlike jars and pouches, they are not heat treated; meaning KiddieCubes taste and smell like real food and retain all of their nutritional value. Each puree is frozen into 25g cubes, the equivalent of one tablespoon, allowing portion sizes to be increased at a steady constant rate. All parents have to do is simply heat the cube in a microwave or on the stove for a few seconds to get spoonfuls of goodness without the fuss.
The KiddieCubes range includes 14 yummy products for little ones, designed for both stage one and stage two of the weaning process. Stage one meals, created for babies aged four months plus, include Purely Apple & Pear Purée; Purely Apple Purée, Blueberry & Apricot Purée; Purely Mango & Apple Purée; Purely Peach & Pear Purée; Purely Apple & Prune Purée; Eat Your Green Veg Mix; Really Rooty Veg Mix; Creamy Porridge; and Creamy Porridge Goes Bananas. Second stage meals, created for babies seven months plus, include Hearty Chicken & Veg Hot Pot; Creamy Leafy Fisherman’s Pie; Veggies & Lovely Lentils; Cauliflower & Broccoli Cheese; and Very Veggie Lamb Casserole.
KiddieCubes founder Issy Langly-Smith commented: “As a mother and nutritional therapist my friends would often come to me for advice on weaning as they really struggled with the process, finding it tedious and often unrewarding when their babies rejected the food. I understand the importance of a balanced meal and love cooking, so relished the milk to solids experience with my two boys, a feeling which quite clearly wasn’t shared by many other mothers. This acted as the motivation to create the weaning “Holy Grail”, a product that helped other mums offer their babies all the taste and nutritional benefits of traditional weaning, but without the hassle or hours of cooking and pureeing.”
Launching in late January 2014 KiddieCubes, with an RRP of £3.49, are set to be a big hit with babies – and their parents – up and down the country. We will let you know in due course what we think, or rather what Baby thinks!
